Job Summary
The Experience Requirements Advisor serves as the primary connection between CPABC's Employer Relations & Talent Development, Student Recruitment, and Practical Experience teams, helping prospective CPA learners and employers understand how workplace opportunities align with CPA practical experience requirements. The role assesses job opportunities and career pathways, supports the development of experience work plan templates, provides guidance on CPA competency alignment, and collaborates with employers to create meaningful pathways toward CPA certification.
Working in partnership with the Employer Relations team, the Advisor participates in employer consultations where organizations have identified accounting roles that may be suitable for CPA learners, providing guidance on how those roles can be structured or enhanced to support the development of required competencies and alignment with CPA practical experience requirements.
Acting as a trusted liaison between employers, prospective learners, and internal regulatory teams, the Advisor translates evolving workforce, employer, and learner needs into informed discussions that balance talent development objectives with CPA certification standards. Through consultation, relationship building, and knowledge translation, the Advisor helps connect labour market realities with CPA requirements while supporting learner success and employer talent needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Practical Experience Requirements Advising
· Provide advice and support to prospective learners seeking to understand how current or prospective roles align with new CPA work experience requirements.
· Review job descriptions, role responsibilities, and career progression to assess alignment with experience work plans and competencies required to meet CPA certification requirements.
· Guide prospective learners in identifying opportunities and gaps relative to CPA competency development and experience requirements.
· Partner with Employer Relation Officers to deliver information sessions, presentations, and one-on-one consultations regarding CPA experience opportunities and pathways to certification.
Partner Engagement and Relationship Management
· Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective learners, employers, and internal partners to support awareness and understanding of CPA practical experience pathways.
· Participate in employer consultations as the practical experience subject matter expert, advising on how accounting positions can be enhanced or aligned to support CPA competency development, experience requirements, and successful progression toward certification.
· Liaise with the Experience team to keep abreast of experience policies and experience workplan templates, as well as to collaborate on creation of templates for employers to reference.
· Collaborate with Employer Relations, Experience, and other teams to identify opportunities to enhance learner and employer engagement.
· Promote awareness of CPA experience requirements and opportunities through presentations, webinars, events, and partner meetings.
· Gather feedback from learners and employers to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for continuous improvement.
Program Support and Continuous Improvement
· Monitor changes to CPA certification requirements, experience standards, and competency frameworks.
· Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of resources, templates, guides, and support materials for prospective learners and employers.
· Identify gaps in available experience workplan templates and collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop solutions that address the gaps.
· Track and report on prospective learner inquiries, employer engagement activities, experience workplan development initiatives, and partner outcomes.
And other duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time.
Key Requirements:
Knowledge and Experience
· Post-Secondary qualification in Business, Human Resources, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience;
· Five (5) plus years of relevant experience in business development, career development, talent development, post-secondary student recruitment, or a similar role;
Demonstrated Skills and Abilities
· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the work-experience competencies required of CPA learners to attain the CPA designation;
· Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility, strong relationships, and collaborate effectively with a broad range of partners at all levels of an organization;
· Ability to assess organizational roles and responsibilities, and provide recommendations that align business needs with professional competency and certification requirements;
· Demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted liaison across diverse business and regulatory groups, building consensus, reconciling competing priorities, and effectively conveying evolving employer and student needs while upholding CPA designation standards and requirements;
· Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment;
· Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong facilitation and presentation skills;
· Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including SharePoint;
· Demonstrated growth mindset and problem solving skills, with excellent project management skills and the ability to adapt to address evolving priorities and deadlines;
· Ability to attend / host some evening and occasional weekend events, with travel within BC approximately 20% of the time.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities
· CPA designation is beneficial but not required;
· Two (2) plus years of experience working with CPA practical experience requirements, or comparable competency, accreditation, certification, or licensing frameworks used by a regulated profession is preferred;
· Demonstrated experience in business development with a strong ability to build, nurture, and sustain strategic relationships that drive long-term value;
· Previous experience creating, editing and curating content for professional communications, including presentations and reporting;
· Prior experience working with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system or a relational database would be preferred;
· Prior experience with Microsoft Dynamics and Power BI would be an asset;
· Holding a valid BC Driver’s License would be beneficial for this role.
The starting annual salary for this position is between $67,800 – 80,450 per annum, based on candidates’ qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.
